Exam Part Equivalency



Some candidates may have taken earlier formats of the NBEO examination sequence. Consequently, the following equivalency statements apply to any candidate wishing to complete the current three-part sequence of the NBEO examinations, but who began the sequence under an earlier format.

Please note, that section scores from different administrations may not be combined to derive an overall Part I, II, or III score or determine a pass-fail status.

Part I

Passed both Parts I and II examinations administered prior to 1976.
Passed both Parts I and IIA examinations administered from 1976 through 1986.
Passed the Basic Science examination administered from 1987 through 2008.
Passed the Applied Basic Science examination administered from 2009 to the present.


Part II

Passed the Part II examination administered prior to 1976, and the TMOD examination administered since 1985.
Passed the Part IIB examination administered from 1976 through 1986, and the TMOD examination administered since 1985.
Passed the Clinical Science examination administered from 1987 through 1993, and the TMOD examination administered since 1985.
Passed the Clinical Science examination administered from 1993 through 2009, including the embedded TMOD examination.


Part III

Passed the Part III examination administered from 1993 through 1999.
Passed the overall Part III Patient Care examination comprised of the Clinical Skills Exam (CSE) and the Patient Assessment Management (PAM) examination administered from 1999 through 2009.
Passed the Part III Clinical Skills examination administered from 2010 to the present.
